Stevens Pass Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrades, Stevens Pass (Summit), WA: 2003.The Stevens Pass Sewer District is a public agency primarily serving Stevens Pass Ski Area in the Washington Cascades. Its facilities include a pretreatment/flow equalization facility at the pass, and a treatment plant 2 miles east. In preparation for the later upgrade, the District wanted to have some immediate improvements done to its pretreatment/flow equalization facility. The improvements consisted of replacing aluminum gratings with new FRP gratings, installation of vents and inlet improvements to a 7000. long gravity trunk sewer, construction of a new metering manhole and installation of new hoist supports. The work was to be bid under small works roster procedures as a fast track project for construction prior to Thanksgiving 2002. As sub-consultant to Hammond, Collier & Wade-Livingstone of Seattle, Wayne Haefele & Associates, Inc. (WHA) produced a complete bid package including engineering drawings and supporting calculations in 5 weeks (including review and comment by Hammond Collier and the District). The project was bid and came in at $42,300.

The following year, the District completely renovated its wastewater treatment facility located in the Yodlin area east of and at the Stevens Pass summit in Washington State. The project was a complete replacement of the existing extended aeration process train with a new Membrane Bio-reactor (MBR) process train. It included renovation of the entire facility including pretreatment, flow equalization, headworks, treatment process, and buildings.

WHA was in responsible charge of civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and HVAC design at the pretreatment/flow equalization (P/FE) facility at Stevens Pass Summit. The work included structural and architectural modification of the P/FE structure, conversion of the existing wet well to a dry pit, replacement of submersible effluent pumps with new dry-pit submersible pumps, all new discharge piping, design of an all new self aspirating jet aeration/mixing system to fit the existing basins, design of a new CMU building to house the MCC room and new emergency generator and grading & drainage modifications at the surrounding site. The contract was awarded for construction beginning in early June 2003 at a cost of $3.2 Million. Construction was completed as of Spring 2004.
