The Electrical-HOCL building for Carpinteria Valley Water District, Carpinteria, CA, 2007 - This building is a 864 square foot reinforced concrete block building designed as part of Wayne Haefele & Associates scope of work for the Rancho Monte Alegre project (see Water projects).

The building consists of two rooms under roof with an attached enclosed courtyard. The motor control center, variable speed drives and power distribution panels occupy one room. The other room houses two chase water sodium hypochlorite feed systems. The courtyard contains a 350 KVA emergency back-up generator and bulk storage for fuel and 12% sodium hypochlorite solution.

The location of the building site is in a very high end gated community in the foothills of coastal Santa Barbara County. The developer, who was partnered with the District on the project, was extremely concerned about aesthetics and wanted the facility to fit thematically with its location. Santa Barbara's Mission Architecture standards were considered first, but because Rancho Monte Alegre is still a working ranch, the Buellton CA Contemporary Ranch Architectural Guidelines were selected as the design motif.

The building features a three layer color coat stucco finish with mortar placed stone masonry pilasters using stones obtained and selected from the site. The roof system consists of pre-manufactured wood trusses supporting an OSB roof deck and standing seam metal roof. The open courtyard is obscured from above by a welded rectangular steel tube pergola fabricated to look like wood. Architectural features include the courtyard entrance gate, which is fabricated from Western Red Cedar finished to a high gloss using multiple coats of carnuba wax.
