Residences for RJM Construction, San Juan Island, WA - Since 2008 Wayne Haefele & Associates, Inc has had an ongoing relationship with RJM, a high end custom home designer and builder. Over this time we have collaborated on four custom home projects on Pearl, Brown and San Juan Islands.

Though all of the homes shared some common design elements, each was totally unique. Common elements were cathedral ceiling great rooms, open plan kitchens, multiple floor levels and lightweight concrete floors with hydronic heating throughout. Two of these homes featured very involved roof lines with multiple intersecting gables, steep pitches and atrium dining areas. In one of these homes this was complicated by a self-supporting, non structural exposed beam framework within the house. In the other, the interior floors above the common areas were supported by an exposed timber structure featuring peeled log columns and rough sawn beams obtained on island. All of the homes have large windows at gable ends to take advantage of stunning water views.

Wayne Haefele & Associates, Inc. provided comprehensive structural analysis to each of these projects, calculating loads and deflections from roof peak to ground, providing design of roof structures, lateral force resisting systems, special structural connections and foundations. We also provided complete rafter, joist, column, beam, header, shear panel, hold-down and footing schedules as well as structural notes to be included in the drawing sets and sealed the completed structural drawing sheets.
